Prior to winning his three World Champion titles, Byamba spent five years in pro sumo, and was on pace to rapidly advance to the highest division, before he left to compete overseas. This was Byamba's 5th consecutive US Sumo Open, and he has now achieved gold medals for all 5 years in a row!

Sylwia is the current openweight World Sumo Champion, winning in front of her home crowd last year in Warsaw, at the 2010 World Sumo Championships. She went undefeated at the US Sumo Open, in both divisions, defeating opponents from several countries!
